I'm simply a person who has been shattered
Since my injury, people keep telling me how strong I must be, how it’s a miracle, how lucky I am... But today, in the silence and solitude, I spent the day sifting through my thoughts. The truth is, I'm not strong or brave. I'm just human. I believe we all have a choice, when truly challenged, to hold onto or maybe reclaim our humanity, no matter what life throws at us. And I made that decision five years ago. I decided to cling to the birthright we all share; the simple, stubborn act of being human. It's something we all have the capacity for. I wrote the poem ‘Shattered’ about these thoughts.
