The start of the first hiking attempt!

Just at the trail head, there was a herd of elk. We sat and watched them for a bit. An auspicious start to the trip.

It was an easy 3 mile walk, on a well manicured trail, mostly to see how I did at 8000’ elevation. I struggled a little with breath, but not bad at all.
