I sat and talked with Reverend Matt today.

It was a lot of fun, and I hope to do it again very soon. He posed the question, “Does today’s society value conformity?” My take was that it very much does. He countered with but we always hear about diversity as a metric of “good” so we must value it. I rebutted with the idea that we do, but we are in a time where cliques are rampant and, within each clique, very little individuality is tolerated. He had to leave at that point. I really hope this becomes a regular thing. I absolutely love learning things and having my perception of the world changed.

I liken today to the Victorian age because the Europeans were discovering new cultures and amidst the birth of the industrial revolution. This caused a culture that valued novelty over truth, and spawned a number of hard-nosed cliques to form. I see a lot of similarities today, as we are in the beginnings of the Technology Singularity.

I also got to have lunch with a friend of mine. It was wonderful to catch up.
